THE Super 8s touch football competition has breathed a fresh breath of air into the sport in Ipswich.

This was evident by the number of spectators watching the second week games at Jim Finimore Oval, One Mile last Friday night.

"We haven't seen people vying for a car park, a full grandstand and the number of supporters viewing games from the sidelines for a number of years,'' said Ipswich Touch Association representative Dale O'Connell.

"We even ran out of beer.''

THE inaugural Super 8s touch football competition tapped off last Friday.

The concept, which is the brainchild of Ipswich Touch Football stalwart Toni Notley, pits eight teams against each other in two divisions, men's and women's.

The Ipswich Touch Association-run competition runs for five weeks with teams playing two games every Friday night and was created for elite players to finalise their preparations for the National Touch League and Elite 8 carnivals next month in Coffs Harbour.
